It’s that time of year again when students are gearing up to go back to school and fall decorations have started to hit shelves. You may be asking yourself where the summer went – but don’t worry! There is still plenty of time to soak up the summer sun before the autumn season rolls around. Add these end-of-summer activities to your to-do list to take advantage of what’s left of the season and head into fall with no regrets.

Take a Day Trip

A day trip is the perfect way to enjoy some traveling without all the stress and expense of an actual vacation. Take a Saturday and visit a nearby beach town to take a long walk in the sand, head to the city for some shopping, or find a hidden gem hiking trail and enjoy the beauty of nature. You really don’t have to travel far to get a whole new experience and make some fun memories along the way.

Go Boating

There’s nothing better than a late summer day spent kayaking, canoeing, or even just relaxing on a motorboat. Boating is a great way to unplug from the daily stresses of our lives and enjoy some sunshine and fresh air instead. Boating can also be a wonderful form of exercise on top of its stress-relieving qualities. No matter what form of boating you decide to try, getting out on the water can provide a cool escape from the heat during a hot summer day.

Enjoy Some Outdoor Entertainment

Heading to the local drive-in movie theater to catch a double feature is the perfect way to spend a warm summer night. Watching a movie under the stars is a hallmark summer experience and it’s such a fun activity to add to your end-of-summer bucket list. Don’t forget the popcorn! If you don’t have any drive-in theaters in your area, you can also try checking out some other outdoor entertainment options such as an outdoor concert or play instead.

Find a Local Swimming Hole

As much fun as swimming pools are, nothing beats soaking up the sun while enjoying a nice swim at the lake. Just grab a swimsuit and some sunscreen and hop in the car to find a nearby swimming hole. Once you’re done with your swim, you can relax and unwind with some fishing, spend some time with a book you’ve been meaning to read, or enjoy a nice picnic by the lake.

Have a Bonfire

End-of-summer evenings when the weather starts to cool off are peak nights to have a bonfire. Invite some friends over for a backyard bonfire or head out to a local park with public fire pits and enjoy the warm blaze. Roast some hot dogs and marshmallows and enjoy a fun night with friends and family. You can even play some fun games to see who has the best s’mores recipe or who can tell the scariest story.

Host a Picnic or Grill Out

Picnics and grill-outs are definitive summer experiences that you don’t want to miss out on! Bring a basket, blanket, and some delicious food to the park and eat out in the fresh air. If you’ve missed out on having a hot dog or cheeseburger this summer, invite some friends and family to a grill-out in your backyard and indulge in some classic summer foods.

Play Tourist in Your Own Town

You don’t need to travel far to have a great time. If you live in a city on the larger side, there’s probably plenty of things to see and do that you just haven’t gotten around to yet. Take a day to visit a new exhibit at a museum or try out a new restaurant that just opened. You can even bring an out-of-town friend with you and show off how special your town really is!

Even though summer days are beginning to wind down and the crisp autumn season will soon be here, there are still plenty of warm days ahead! Get outside and enjoy the beautiful summer weather before the leaves start to change. Make sure these last few weeks of summer are full of fun, laughs, and unforgettable memories.
