Now Hear This! Now Hear This! A family earning $117,000 a year now qualifies as “low income” in the Bay Area, which is mind-boggling, to say the least. Especially when you consider that the U.S. Census Bureau reported in September 2017 the median household income for the country was around half that amount at $59,039 and that only about 20% of American households make six-figures. Not only is that shocking but the cost for a single-family home in the Bay Area is at an all-time high of $947,500 and that’s usually a “fixer-upper”. Read more in Fortune about these astounding numbers.
